Maria Matiashova’s media-critical screenshot “world, google Bucha” addresses, among other things, the question of whether and which images of war crimes are allowed to be shown in the media. At short notice, the Meta Group blocked hashtags related to the atrocities in Bucha. According to Meta spokesperson Andy Stone, this was due to automated filtering processes. Human rights organisations repeatedly criticize the deletion of such images, as they can be used to clarify war crimes. In order to circumvent this filter at the time of the blocking, Maria Matiashova posted a screenshot of her note “world, google Bucha” on Instagram to raise awareness of the atrocities and keep it up to date. The post immediately went viral.
