In his series “Abrupt”, artist Dima Mykytenko examines the urban environment. In order to achieve this, he intervenes in the urban space by means of orange speech bubble-like structures. His superimpositions do not follow any recognisable narrative, yet the viewer tries almost com- pulsively to bring the visual context into line with the content. However, Mykytenko’s digital collage consistently refuses this access. The semiotic dabs of colour not only veil certain aspects of the image, but also act like arbitrary oval foils that colonise the public space.
